The Lakes Creek Hotel
Barbara Bambrick and Eric William Bambrick took over the management of the Lakes Creek Hotel, Lakes Creek, Rockhampton in July 1939, set about preparing for business, were granted the victualler's license in August 1939, and were open for business by August 18 1939.
By the following July, the war in the pacific was well under way, and the Lakes Creek area was engaged in A.R.P. preparedness. What is A.R.P.? It stands for "Air Raid Precautions"
In mid December 1941, little Olga, age 5, fell down the stairs, lacerated her scalp and won a trip to the hospital.
On Christmas Eve 1941, Eric Bambrick gave an interest free loan to the government, of £100, to assist in the war effort. This sounds quite a bit like the 'War Bonds' that are often used to raise money for war.
In July 1945, 8 hotel keepers were charged with violations of the price regulations. Ewan Palmer of Messrs. Rees R. and Sydney Jones, appeared for Eric Bambrick and several other defendants. Eric was fined £2, with costs:
"for destroying books of accounts relating to board and lodgings without the authority of the Prices Commissioner."
Eric's youngest son, Graham, who was 11 years old at the time, reports that Eric always maintained that this was by far the best £2 he'd ever spent.

TOO MANY HOTELS
IN PRINCIPAL
SECTION OF CITY?
Criticism By
Licensing Commission
The Licensing Commission, compris-
ing Messrs T/A. Perry (chairman),
R.H.Robinson, and F. P. Byrne, sat at
Rockhampton yesterday. Mr . Byrne
said after the Court rose that the com-
mission had inspected several hotels in
Rockhampton and were not satisfied
that the accommodation now offering
is entirely suitable or adequate, and
that it was felt that some city
hotels should provide a higher stand-
ard of accommodation for guests. The
commission was also of the opinion
that there were, too many licences in
the principal section of the city and
that the elimination of some licence
would result in improved conditions
being provided at the remaining
licensed houses.
The following applications were
granted:
