There's a trapdoor

-- a heavy old wooden trapdoor - a door in the floor.

The chain is covered in dust, dust and rust. It's not new.

You heave at the chain -- and a warm yellow light steps out of the chasm beyond.

I can't tell for sure if it is an "Old Library" -- not yet -- but I am certain that what I'm faced with is an "Old Ladder."

I step down each creaking tread of the ancient wooden ladder. Only when my feet are on the ground do I dare to look around.
